It’s part of a trend toward increasingly data-driven agriculture. Farms today are bursting with engineering marvels, the result of years of automation and other innovations designed to grow more food with less labor. Tractors autonomously plant seeds within a few centimeters of their target locations, and GPS-guided harvesters reap the crops with equal accuracy. Extensive wireless networks backhaul data on soil hydration and environmental factors to faraway servers for analysis. But what if we could add to these capabilities the ability to more comprehensively assess the water content of soil, become more rigorous in our ability to spot irrigation and pest problems, and get a general sense of the state of the farm, every day or even every hour? The implications cannot be stressed enough. We expect 9.6 billion people to call Earth home by 2050. All of them need to be fed. Farming is an input-output problem. If we can reduce the inputs—water and pesticides—and maintain the same output, we will be overcoming a central challenge.

Spark’s most innovate feature is probably its Advanced Gesture Controls. Using simple hand gestures, you can take off, tell Spark to follow you, and take photos or videos without using a mobile device or controller. But of course, if you want more traditional control methods, you can fly with a remote controller (included with the Fly More Combo) or just your mobile device.
Of course, this sounds a lot simpler than it works in practice. If there is an object in your drone’s way, then you may not get the camera shot you were after, and you’ll need to re-plan and fly the shot again.
Considering the fact Spark is mainly marketed as a selfie drone, it’s safe to say the built-in FHD camera will do the trick. What’s even better is the 2-axis gimbal stabilization system which will do wonders in terms of smoothing your aerial footage. Features are always the very pinnacle of DJI’s creation, and the same goes for Spark too. Starting off with the usual smart flight modes and facial recognition software, this little fella also sports a couple of new features including PalmControl and PalmLaunch. Both of them allow you to effectively control your drone with your bare hands from takeoff to midair controlling – how crazy is that?
Slowly but surely, we are moving forward to the best drone on this list. But, before that one, I will first say a couple of words about the runner up which is the awesome Phantom 4 Pro by DJI. Even though it was kind of left in the Mavic Pro’s shadow, there’s no doubt Phantom 4 Pro is a proper upgrade over the standard version… and I’ll tell you just why!
It’s not a coincidence, then, that the number of drone-related hijinks has also been on the rise. In August 2013, a drone crashed into a crowd at a bull run in Virginia. The next month, activists protesting the German government’s surveillance policies landed a drone on a dais in front of Chancellor Angela Merkel at a reelection-campaign event in Dresden. Over the past two years, people have attempted to use drones to smuggle contraband into more than a dozen prisons around the world.
Most drones use a remote control with two joysticks — a bit like an Xbox or PlayStation controller. One stick controls what’s called the attitude of the quadcopter, including roll (tilting left and right) and pitch (tilting up and down). The other stick controls throttle and the rotation of the quadcopter. A good remote control should fit well in the hand, with sticks resting comfortably under your thumbs and providing a smooth, responsive feel that allows you to guide the quadcopter by touch.
